Character And Consistency Truly Matter, Genesis 49:1-4
Welcome to Grace Community Church , today we’ll be looking at Genesis 49:1-4, “Character And Consistency Truly Matter”
Overview
We saw in our previous session that Jacob’s preference for Ephraim above Manasseh demonstrated that in God’s economy, birth order does not necessarily inform whom HE chooses to fulfill His works. This pattern will continue as Jacob prepares to bestow prophetic blessings on his twelve children. Genesis 49 begins with Israel’s or Jacob’s summons for his family to assemble. We’ll see the importance of this call as Reverend Julio expands on the significance of coming together in church. But more importantly, the first five verses will focus on Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn son. He forfeited his firstborn privileges due to character flaws, and Pastor Julio will lean on this account to preach about the major role character and consistency play in our lives.
Character And Consistency Have A Symbiotic Relationship
The Passage: Genesis 49: 1-5
49 Then Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall happen to you in days to come.
2 “Assemble and listen, O sons of Jacob,
listen to Israel your father.
3 “Reuben, you are my firstborn,
my might, and the firstfruits of my strength,
preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power.
4 Unstable as water, you shall not have preeminence,
because you went up to your father’s bed;
then you defiled it—he went up to my couch!
